Morgan Harper

U.S. House | Ohio 3rd

"There’s a system that is driving a lot of the outcomes that we’re seeing in inequality, and the system is driven by public policy."

Justice and equality advocate

Morgan Harper grew up in Columbus, Ohio. She was born at Ohio State University Hospital and spent time in a foster home before being adopted and raised on the East side of Columbus by a Columbus public school teacher. Her mother was an immigrant from Trinidad and worked hard to support Morgan and her brother.

After receiving financial aid to attend Columbus Academy, Morgan developed a commitment to fight against inequality and work toward opening the doors to opportunity for others. She strongly believes that, when equipped with the right tools, all people can have opportunities regardless of upbringing.

With the help of scholarship programs, Morgan was able to attain a Masters in Public Policy from Princeton and a law degree from Stanford. After graduating, she spent three years at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where she worked to protect consumers against predatory lending practices. Most recently Morgan worked at the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), helping to invest in communities that have been systematically under-resourced.

Morgan has been focused on fighting to help families with real kitchen table issues. She understands the deep inequality throughout central Ohio, and that’s why she is fighting to grow opportunity for everyone in her district, regardless of zip code. Columbus is her home, and she’s bringing her wide range of experiences to fight for legislation that includes housing as a human right, medicare for all, and investments in public education.
