“Like many folks my age, I was inspired to get into electoral politics by Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign. Bernie made me believe that I could actually be represented in government and that there exists an alternative to the corporate-driven politics that to this day have a stranglehold on Washington. Unfortunately, I have rarely felt the same way since 2016. As a queer woman of color, I constantly feel rejected and taken for granted by the Democratic Party, and struggle to get on board with hyperpartisan politics that claim that one party alone will save our nation. That’s what makes Brand New Congress so special. It isn’t about party or politics; it’s about people, and the policies that work best for us.”
